On Wednesday and Thursday in Kyiv, the USAID RADA program, National Democratic Institute and Political Education Institute delivered workshops to MP aides and staff of public reception offices of MPs who have such offices in the city of Kyiv (Nov. 18) and the Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts (Nov. 19).
The workshops, called "Working in District: Strategic Planning and Developing Effective Communication with Community", focused on planning and organizing work in a district; MP's inquiries and applications; budgeting principles in the Verkhovna Rada; and working with and reporting to public. These topics were covered by Volodymyr Kryzhanivskyi, USAID RADA Senior Consultant; Oleksandr Solontay, Political Education Institute expert; and Olena Rybiy, OPORA project manager.
Yevhen Barshchevskyi, NDI Program for Political Parties Senior Assistant, also presented CiviMP, an online public reception office and part of NDI's Democracy Toolkit DemTools.
According to Yevhen "The workshops have showed how serious the MP aides' demand is for training in the best practices of communication with citizens. As for CiviMP, this system allows an MP team to systematize the huge array of information on citizens in a district and identify issues of their greatest concern. CiviMP not only forms a district profile but also serves as a tool for communication with citizens via email and SMS mailings.""
The events were attended by 40 MP aides/staff from the city of Kyiv and 35 from the oblasts of Kyiv and Chernihiv.
