Weekly Roundup 5/10/16

Happy Tuesday readers! Last week, President Obama gave his final White House Correspondents’ Dinner address. Over the years, Obama has become known for his comic relief at these dinners, and many have noted that this years speech has topped them all. View Obama’s speech here.

In addition to the humor, Obama took the opportunity to bring attention to the issues surrounding freedom of expression in many parts of the world. He stated, that “this is also a time around the world when some of the fundamental ideals of liberal democracies are under attack, and when notions of objectivity, and of a free press, and of facts, and of evidence are trying to be undermined.  Or, in some cases, ignored entirely.”  His response is based in part on legitimate fears of terrorism or fundamental cultural mores and problems with online crime. Online restrictions prevent the open sharing of ideas closing the door to more free and democratic societies. We commend Obama for shedding light on this very pertinent issue-and NDItech will continue to join the fight for freedom of expression online.
