Weekly Roundup 5/23/16
Happy Monday, Readers! It is time for your Weekly Roundup! This week is monumental for the field of international development. Due to the current world “witnessing the highest level of human suffering since the Second World War”, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has asked world leaders to gather at the World Humanitarian Summit in hopes of finding more successful pathways towards peace. The World Humanitarian Summit will take place today and tomorrow in Istanbul - you can watch the Summit live here.
The agenda for the Summit has been divided into 7 core responsibilities: to prevent and end conflict, to respect rules of war, to leave no one behind, to catalyze action for gender equality, to respond to disasters and climate change, to work differently to respond quicker in times of crisis, and to invest in humanity. We hope leaders keep in mind the role of appropriate tech as a catalyst to increase the capacity and efficiency of humanitarian efforts. NDItech has also been continuing to inform others around the world about how technology can be extremely valuable in the field of international development. Chris Doten has just recently returned from the g0v Conference, where he spoke our DemTools initiative. Great job, Chris!
