Profile
Evan Summers is a Project Assistant with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team at the National Democratic Institute. With an interest in the powerful potential of the relationship between democracy and new communication technologies, Evan is looking forward to working with the team on the development and implementation of new innovations in the ICT4D sphere.
Before joining NDI, Evan spent time as an intern at the Internews Center for Innovation and Learning, where he researched the changing relationship between humanitarian data and the information ecosystems of affected communities. He has also previously worked as an intern and field reporter for Radio Mega FM in Gulu, Uganda, where he covered local stories ranging from student strikes and government corruption scandals to information and communication infrastructure, and healthcare.
Evan has a B.A. in International Relations with a focus on development and sustainability from Carleton College in frequently frigid Northfield, Minnesota. While at Carleton, he completed independent research on humanitarian coordination and cooperation in crisis and disaster responses, the role of media in the development of democratic institutions, and wrote his senior thesis on alternative approaches to international development.
Outside the office, Evan spends much of his time writing about, talking about, and watching sports. A high school baseball utility player and a college baseball broadcaster, Evan is still (and will forever be) a diehard fan of his hometown teams from Kansas City, Missouri.
